Gold and Copper Resources CEO Brian Locke charged over $1.9m fraud

The former chief executive of a mining company has been charged with 136 offences relating to the alleged fraud of almost $2 million.

Police will allege in court that Brian Locke, the former chief executive officer of Gold and Copper Resources, used his employment at the company to fraudulently obtain and use funds valued at more than $1.9 million.

Gold and Copper Resources is a small exploration company.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad, with assistance from Central West Police District, established Strike Force Curnuck to investigate reports of fraudulent offences committed against a mining company between 2009 and 2017.

On January 18, detectives served 72-year-old Mr Locke, from Huntley, with a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) for 56 offences.

Those offences included dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception and obtaining money by deception (greater than $5000).

Mr Locke is due to appear at Orange Local Court on Monday, where detectives will lay an additional 80 fraud-related charges.

Investigations under Strike Force Curnuck are continuing.
