Every year Boxing Day falls on the day after Christmas, December 26. This year that is a Monday.

Boxing Day first originated in the United Kingdom. There are many theories as to the name but one is that it was a day to compensate servants since most would work on Christmas Day. The name ‘Boxing Day’ is said to refer to the boxes or presents that were given that day. Since the 1980s, the day has also become synonymous with large shopping sales. In 2021, the Australian Retailers Association conducted research with Roy Morgan and predicted that Australians would spend a huge $21 billion throughout the Boxing Day sales.
